Installation Guide
- Clean both joint edges, removing concrete laitance, grout and debris from the joint and anchor zone.
- Position the StarGuard frame profiles along each edge so they sit flush and level with the finished floor.
- Mark, drill and fix the profiles into the slab through the pre-drilled holes using suitable anchors.
- Check that both sides are parallel and level with a consistent gap before final tightening.
- Seat the aluminium cover plate into the frame along the full length of the joint.
- Clean the finished joint and verify the cover sits flush with adjacent floor finishes.
Maintenance & Care
StarGuard requires minimal upkeep. Clean the aluminium cover periodically with a neutral detergent diluted in water and rinse with clean water; avoid acidic (hydrochloric or hydrofluoric) cleaners, which attack aluminium.
Inspect the cover and fixings during routine facility checks. Re-tighten any loose anchors and replace a damaged cover section without disturbing the fixed frame, keeping the floor in service with minimal downtime.
FAQs
StarGuard — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Dseal StarGuard floor expansion joint cover?
StarGuard is a floor-to-floor expansion joint cover system made from ASTM 6063 T6 aluminium. It bridges interior slab movement joints with a low-profile, flush cover for foot and light rolling traffic in commercial buildings.
What material is StarGuard made from?
StarGuard is extruded from ASTM 6063 T6 aluminium, a corrosion-resistant alloy well suited to interior commercial floors. The aluminium gives a durable, low-maintenance cover with a clean mill finish.
What type of joint is StarGuard designed for?
StarGuard is a floor-to-floor system for level interior slab joints, where two floor sections meet on the same plane. It keeps the transition flush so pedestrians and light trolleys pass over smoothly.
How much traffic can StarGuard handle?
StarGuard is rated for foot traffic and light rolling loads such as trolleys and carts in commercial interiors. For vehicular or heavy rolling loads, Dseal recommends heavier systems such as LoadMaster or JointMaster.
Is StarGuard suitable for outdoor use?
StarGuard is designed primarily for interior commercial floors. For exposed or weather-affected joints, the Dseal team can recommend an externally rated cover or seal suited to your conditions.
Does StarGuard sit flush with the floor?
Yes. Its slim, low-profile aluminium section is designed to finish near-flush with adjacent floor coverings, giving a clean, trip-free transition across the joint.
How is StarGuard installed?
The aluminium frame profiles are fixed level along each joint edge through pre-drilled holes, then the cover plate is seated into the frame. The full step-by-step is in the Installation Guide above.
Can StarGuard be used in refurbishment projects?
Yes. Its surface-fixed design suits both new construction and refurbishment, allowing a tidy joint cover to be added to existing interior floors with minimal disruption.
What is the difference between StarGuard and JackGuard?
Both are floor-to-floor aluminium covers for interior and commercial floors. StarGuard is tuned as a low-profile cover for foot and light rolling traffic, while JackGuard is a more robust horizontal floor-to-floor solution for commercial and industrial settings.
Does StarGuard need a special floor finish?
No. StarGuard works with most common commercial floor finishes such as tile, stone, vinyl and screed, finishing flush against the adjacent surface for a neat appearance.
Are custom sizes available for StarGuard?
Yes. Dhawan Associates manufactures Dseal profiles in-house and can supply StarGuard tailored to your joint width and floor build-up. Share your drawings with the team for a project-specific recommendation.
What maintenance does StarGuard require?
Very little. Clean periodically with a neutral detergent and water, avoid acidic cleaners, and check the fixings during routine inspections. Damaged cover sections can be swapped without removing the frame.
Does StarGuard comply with any standards?
StarGuard aluminium profiles are manufactured in compliance with ASTM B221-02 and the ASTM 6063 specification. Dseal manufacturing is certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.
Who manufactures Dseal StarGuard?
StarGuard is designed and manufactured in India by Dhawan Associates, makers of the Dseal range of building expansion joint systems and covers, with in-house capability for custom requirements.
