How to Measure Your Joint

Five simple measurements let our engineers recommend and detail the correct Dseal system for your project. Here's exactly what we need.

Joint width measurement — clear gap across the joint at the surface

1 · Joint Width

Measure the clear gap across the joint at the surface, in millimetres. Note any taper.

Expansion joint movement — blockout and slab cross-section

2 · Movement

The total expected movement (±mm) from thermal, seismic and structural sources.

Joint depth and build-up available to recess the system

3 · Depth / Build-up

The finished floor or wall build-up depth available to recess the system.

Traffic and load over an expansion joint

4 · Traffic & Load

Pedestrian, light vehicle, forklift or heavy vehicle — and any point loads.

Joint location — floor, wall or roof, interior or exterior

5 · Location

Floor-to-floor, floor-to-wall, wall-to-wall or roof — interior or exterior.

Technical drawing of the expansion joint detail

+ Drawings

A section or photo of the joint helps us detail the perfect fit. Optional but ideal.

Send us your measurements

Once you have these five figures, send them to our team and we'll come back with a recommended system, a technical detail and a quotation — usually the same working day.
